About this Offering

Are you committed to co-creating educational systems and practices that serve the interconnected development and thriving of all life? Step into an existing, global developmental community of practitioners in the broad field of regenerative education. Every semester, the community welcomes new people and shifts its attention to a new semester theme. The upcoming semester, this theme is Shaping Regenerative Change Projects in Education (see detailed theme introduction below). The design and program of the community is developed by SRE faculty Mieke Lopes Cardozo, Koen Wessels, and Bas van den Berg, with Mieke and Koen acting as the main facilitators of monthly sessions. The community design consists of:

  1. Monthly online sessions. One Wednesday per month, the community gathers online. Through active engagement with living systems thinking, embodied and reflective exercises, and collaborative work in small break-out groups, we build shared consciousness, develop core capabilities to better serve our respective learning communities, and open pathways to vitalize and evolve our work in the world.

  2. A community that resources your unique journey. Session recordings and materials offer a starting point for continued reflection and experimentation in your own practice and projects. As our work takes shape, we facilitate and invite the organization of additional meet-ups around commonalities that emerge from the group (e.g., working in a similar place/context with its own unique challenges, working on projects with a similar thematic focus or intention, etc.). To facilitate all this, we work with a members-only online community platform connected to SRE's website, enabling discussion and collaboration between sessions.

The five online sessions are scheduled on the following Wednesdays from 15:00-17:00 Central European Time:

  • September 23th, 2026

  • October, 21th, 2026

  • November 18th, 2026

  • December 9th, 2026

  • January 13th, 2027

Semester Theme: Shaping Regenerative Change Projects in Education

It’s one thing to sense that the educational practices and/or systems around us could (should?) evolve into something more meaningful and life-affirming. That they could be more intimately connected to people and place. That they could more courageously address and transform injustices, and welcome plurality. That they could more fullheartedly foreground mutual flourishing and care. And so forth. It’s a whole other thing to shape processes that actualize such potential, processes that awaken collective motivation and channel it into transformative action that lasts.

In the upcoming semester of SRE’s Developmental Community we invite you to actively bring in the projects and questions you are working on in your context. Over the course of five months, you'll develop your capacity to (more fully) recognize and actualize the regenerative potential of these projects, and we’ll offer you a safe and communal space to (further) develop your own regenerative leadership. Herein, we mean ‘project’ in a broad sense. Whether you’re (re)developing an educational program/material, setting up an educational research project, working on change on an (inter)institutional level, making/exploring a shift to another role in the system, or something else, we’d love to welcome you and your work into our community.

Core focus and questions per session:

Each of the five sessions of this semester will offer a deep dive into a particular dimension of what it means to shape regenerative projects, drawing inspiration from the book The Art of Regenerative Educatorship

  • Session 1 (23 Sep) - Opening: What does it mean to pursue regeneration in the field of education? Within myself and my unique (educational) community and place, what is ready to be hospiced, what is seeking nourishment? What are the different ‘systemic layers’ I/we need to work on so that our (aspired) projects can reach their full potential?

  • Session 2 (21 Oct) - Grounding: How can I/we co-create a grounded, aligned sense of potential and commitment in my/our context and project(s)? What does it mean to work from potential, rather than starting from a problem to be solved?

  • Session 3 (18 Nov) - Imaging change: In strategising a project, how can I/we ‘image’ and actively hold in mind at least three layers of systemic change (in scale and time) simultaneously? What regenerative theories of change can inspire our project(s), and how do I/we step into appropriate roles across the different contexts, relationships, and time-horizons I/we work within?

  • Session 4 (9 Dec) - Partnering: How can I/we build synergetic partnerships, in which actors and resources work together in new, co-creative ways? As part of my change project, how can I recognise and support the development of all stakeholders involved, including my own?

  • Session 5 (13 Jan) - Evolving: What bigger systemic changes do I/we hope to contribute to? How do I / we design for emergence and ‘positive escalation’, so that our projects might outgrow us as we outgrow ourselves? What does this mean for my ‘promise beyond ableness’?

Is the Developmental Community something for me?

The Developmental Community welcomes educational practitioners from diverse geographical and educational contexts - ranging from early childhood to adult education, and from formal settings like schools and universities to informal learning environments such as museums or community programs. We also welcome people in diverse roles, such as teachers, team leaders, curriculum developers, managers, organizers, teacher trainers, coaches, spiritual mentors and researchers. It can be of added value to participate together with one or multiple of your colleagues, especially if you work on a project together to which you can directly apply exercises and insights. The primary language of the community is English. If this poses a challenge for you, SRE-faculty is willing to support you where possible and is also proficient in Dutch and Spanish. By joining the SRE Developmental Community, you'll become a member of a resourced community of pioneers working in the broad field of regenerative education and learning. Participation in the Developmental Community does not result in a diploma or certificate, yet we can offer a proof or participation if that applies to your (funding) situation.

If the following applies to you, it is likely that the Developmental Community is something for you:

  • I intuitively feel or aim to further explore a deep sense of caring for the role of educational/learning spaces in today’s and tomorrow's world(s) and develop my ‘promise beyond current ableness’.

  • I see potential for more meaningful and regenerative ways of learning and relating in my life and work communities; I have started integrating (some of) these in my (educational) systems and communities, and I feel called to take a next step.

  • I am aware that regenerative development processes are complex and require a sustained commitment, and I am willing to embrace uncertainty, discomfort and curiosity as part of my own development.

  • I am seeking the support and inspiration of a developmental collective learning space, and I am simultaneously ready to commit to contributing to a collective developmental learning process for all.

  • I am willing to commit to approximately 3-5 hours of work per month outside of the live sessions for engaging with the reflective exercises and online platform.

  • I am willing to experiment and integrate insights and newly developed capabilities in my projects/communities and engage with an ongoing committed process of self-, peer- and systemic inquiry.
