Developmental Community

A rich mycelium of learning together

The School of Regenerative Educators hosts a communal space for educators to learn together and transform their situated practices and roles. This space is organized around a central, ‘long thought question’: how to co-evolve human learning for regenerative worlds? Together:

  • We explore what it means for education to contribute to the mutual flourishing of people, place and planet.

  • We commit to develop the capacity in ourselves and others to spot and nourish the potential for regenerative change in our educational practices and systems.

  • We support one another in developing our unique value adding roles and capabilities, empowering us to steward regeneration in our diverse communities.

The developmental community welcomes educators from diverse geographical and educational contexts - ranging from early childhood to adult education, and from formal settings like schools and universities to informal learning environments such as museums or community programs. The primary language of the community is English. However, as the School is based in the Netherlands and its faculty is proficient in Dutch and Spanish, participants who prefer to speak in those languages will be accommodated whenever possible. By joining the SRE Developmental Community, you'll become a member of a resourced community of pioneers working in the broad field of regenerative education and learning.

How it works

The developmental community is facilitated by SRE faculty Mieke Lopes Cardozo, Bas van den Berg and Koen Wessels and organized around three yearly seasons. Each season has a theme that creates collective focus, and offers a cohesive set of activities and engagement opportunities:

  1. Monthly online gatherings

    • Gathering 1: Building Consciousness. Through engaging with regenerative framework thinking and our diverse lived experiences, we develop shared consciousness.

    • Gathering 2: Sensing Potential. We explore essential regenerative shifts in ourselves, our communities, and our larger systems.

    • Gathering 3: Performing new Possibilities. Through co-creating stories and designing (re)new(ed) practices, we open pathways to vitalize and evolve our work in the world.

  2. Reflective learning journey. In between gatherings, you receive reflective invitations to continue and deepen your learning journey in your own space and time.

  3. Online community space. We invite you into an online space where you can engage with other members in the community (e.g. to share events/resources, to engage around provocative ideas or experiences, to ask for support/exchanges, to organize a reading club, etc..).

  4. Seasonal harvest. At the end of each season, we bring together core insights that emerged from the learning in a creative format.

  5. Seasonal walk & seasonal dinner (additional offerings). Each season, two local in-person events are organized in the Netherlands - a nature walk and a dinner - which facilitate more embodied, informal modes of learning with and from each other. These events are open to anyone interested, and need to be registered for separately through their designated pages on the website (under offerings). A 10% discount applies for members of the developmental community.

Upcoming Seasonal Theme (Sep-Dec 2025): Openings for Regeneration

The opening theme of SRE’s first season is - appropriately - openings for regeneration. What potential do our educational environments hold for the manifestation of more regenerative worlds? And, what does this mean to us? In this season, we'll be diving into and practicing the art of 'seeing potential'. As SRE faculty, we'll offer guidance to explore which opportunities exist in your learning spaces and educational communities to make a shift from 'business as usual' towards more regenerative ways of working and learning together. And we'll encourage you to explore what opening(s) you sense inside yourself to 'step up' in order to open and hold space for such shifts in others’ around you. Last but not least, we'll be posing the question: how might you need to evolve yourself in order to fulfill the regenerative potential you see?

The online developmental community is for your if you:

  • intuitively feel or aim to further explore a deep sense of caring for the role of educational/learning spaces in today’s and tomorrow's world(s) and develop your ‘promise beyond current ableness’.

  • see potential for more meaningful and regenerative ways of learning in your educational contexts, and you feel called to develop your own capacities to (further) contribute to manifesting this potential - in yourself and others.

  • are seeking the support and inspiration of a developmental collective learning space, while you simultaneously are ready to commit to contributing to this community.

  • are willing to commit to approximately 3-5 hours of work per month outside of the live sessions for reflections and engaging with the reflective learning exercises and online platform, and additional hours for experimentation when you are ready to implement your projects.

Commitment and Contribution

The Developmental Community is a place of reciprocal relationships. Members are expected to show up with a proactive intention to learn and develop themselves and to (learn to) resource the development of other members, as well as the broader field of regenerative education.
